About the organization

Mission Statement: We exist to improve the health, education, food security, economic development, and well-being of South Sudanese people so that they may have hope and prosperity.

Brief History:Southern Sudan Healthcare Organization (SSHCO) is a non-profit organization Co-founded by Dr. Jacob Atem and Mr. Lual Deng on March 27, 2008. Both are two of the Lost Boys of Sudan who came to America in 2001. Together, they drive the vision and message of a safer South Sudan through healthcare and education. SSHCO was established in the USA as a 501(c)3 organization with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in 2009. SSHCO officially began working in South Sudan in 2012. SSHCO has been working in South Sudan since 2011 beginning with the construction of a Primary Health Care Center (PHCC) in Maar, Jonglei State. Currently, SSHCO is still running its clinic in Jonglei State, and on September 23, 2020, SSHCO has been responding to Mangalla displacement camp in Central Equatoria State. SSHCO has provided health services to the host communities (Bari and Mundari) and the IDPs from Jonglei State.

Strategic Goals:

• To continue treating and providing healthcare services to those who visit our clinic in Maar, Jonglei State,

• To continue treating and providing healthcare services to the host communities (Bari & Mundari) and over 94,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Jonglei State at Mangalla, Central Equatoria State,

. • To form and maintain relationships that allow for a steady flow of funds to ensure our patients receive the highest quality healthcare,

 • To provide resources and funding to South Sudanese individuals hoping to pursue careers in the medical field to ensure wider access to healthcare across the country, and 

. • To build clinics that will focus on maternal healthcare to provide the best future for women and their children.
