About the organization

Missions Agency / Non-Profit

Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a local Christian nonprofit ministry, open to all people, that inspires hope and service through volunteer home repair and replacement in Central Appalachia. Appalachia Service Project (ASP)! 54 years ago, a Methodist Minister named Tex Evans came up with the idea to bring teenagers from his church to help families in need of critical home repairs to make their homes warmer, safer and drier. Five decades later, we are still providing much needed home repairs to homeowners who are not able to afford major improvements such as insulation, new flooring, roof repair and foundation repair. Since 1969, we have been working with families who live in substandard housing conditions and through volunteer service, we provide much needed home repairs as “grace gifts” to these homeowners across various counties in KY, NC, TN, VA and WV.

ASP would love the opportunity to connect with church leaders attending this conference and share about affordable, turn-key mission trips for adults and youth in Central Appalachia. Mission trips - whether domestic or international - can provide Christians a unique opportunity to get out of their comfort zone, and have a new and eye-opening service experience while learning about poverty in a whole new way. ASP's service area focuses on Central Appalachia, which is 30 counties in Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, making our service trips easy to travel to. Our exhibit booth will have information available on what an ASP mission trip during the summer months or a year-round trip to repair or replace homes would consist of, for any church leader to consider ASP in their future plans for mission trips and service opportunities. Having more Spire Leaders aware of ASP's ministry gives them yet another regional ministry to potentially partner with when planning future mission opportunities for their congregations.
