Samuel Thielman
Resilience, Endurance, and Christian Work in an Unfamilar Location
Dr. Thielman is a psychiatrist and consultant for organizations working in conflict zones and/or providing post-disaster relief. For 16 years he was a regional psychiatrist for the US Department of State. He coordinated much of the State Department's long-term mental health response to the 1998 East Africa embassy bombings. He was Senior Advisor for Resilience at the Foreign Servivce Institute. His areas of research interest are PTSD, resilience, the psychiatry/religion interface, and the history of psychiatry. He has many publications in professional journals including the American Journal of Psychiatry, Psychiatry, the British Journal of Psychiatry, New England Journal of Medicine, and the Foreign Service Journal.
